My name is Walt Mussell. This is my second work for BODY MOVERS fan fiction. My first was the contemporary short story Revenge Is A Body Best Served Cold.
I thank you for checking out this topic Even Bodies Fall From Trees. I primarily write historicals with settings like Japan and India, but my publishing credits have been contemporary. This is my first published historical. I'm fanatical about certain parts of Japanese history and spent several years in Japan. I get to indulge that love here.
What I've done with this story is to imagine a prequel that takes place at the time of the initial arrest of Randolph Wren. However, instead of writing a contemporary prequel. I dropped my prequel in the Yokohama foreign settlement of early 1860s Japan. All the main characters are here, and even some minor ones, though they may be slightly modified. The work is just under 22k words.
I hope you enjoy this story and consider reading the contemporary short story as well. I’ll answer any questions here anyone has, provided it has nothing to do with specifics on what might be coming next. (I'll answer general questions.)

I really enjoyed this story...quite an interesting perspective and educational as well! At first it was hard accepting Carlotta being so submissive but her own explanations helped me adjust. Great read!
Thanks, Mary. I had trouble visualizing Carlotta that way at first myself. I had to accept that, at the time of her father's arrest. Carlotta had basically had everything given to her, so she's not used to acting on her own. She's also in the 19th century where women would have been expected to be more submissive.
